360° TURN & MOVING SIDEWAYS (DRAW STROKE) 

1. Put the paddle in the water back by the stern and push it through the water in a wide arc to the bow (reverse sweep stroke).

2. Then put the paddle on the other side of the bow and pull it in a broad arc to the stern (for-ward sweep stroke). Alternate the two sweep strokes until the kayak has spun completely around.

Moving sideways (draw stroke)

1. Twist your torso around so you’re facing the direction you want to move in. Pull the paddle toward you, pushing water underneath the kayak.

2. Turn the paddle so that the blade slices through the water as it returns to the start of the stroke.

3. Keep your upper hand by your forehead. Your lower arm should be doing most of the work.

4. Repeat the stroke until you get where you’re trying to go.
