This website (and its printed companion) was developed, written and drawn by Line Maj Skuldbøl, a Danish designer and illustrator.
The idea for it originated when, first as a novice paddler and later as an instructor, she found herself frustrated with the teaching materials available – in particular, the lack of visuals that could clarify kayaking techniques and exercises. She discovered that other students and instructors shared her dissatisfaction. After thinking about it, she decided to convert her notes and sketches, which she had made to better understand the material, to a more practical and accessible form. |
AcknowledgmentsA special thank you to Aarhus Canoe and Kayak Club and to Daniel Andreasen, Christopher Ebbrecht, Torsten Aaboe Andersen and Leif Tarp for the inspiring conversations and discussions that informed the creation of this book.
Thank you as well to journalist and kayaker Camilla Quist Laursen for some of the text and for linguistic fine-tuning of the original Danish edition. In preparing the English edition, I’m indebted to Misha Hoekstra for his translation and invaluable support. I’m grateful also to Mads Brandt Pedersen, Thomas Lusty and Rita Westergaard for their helpful input and connections, and particularly to Julia Lawley and David Francis for their detailed feedback. |
