PARTNER RESCUE |
There are many kayaks that won’t tolerate rescue techniques. It is important to know what kind of kayak you’re paddling and how robust it is so that you can avoid damaging it.
1. If a kayaker encounters someone who has cap-sized, they need to start by making sure that the person is okay. Then the “rescuer” needs to secure their paddle and kayak.
2. The kayak should be turned right-side up, so that it doesn’t take on any more water.
The ”capsized” gives their paddle to the res-cuer. |
8. Leaning back is important, as it helps the capsized keep their centre of gravity low. That improves their balance and helps prevent another capsize.
9. The rescuer should have a firm hold on the other kayak while the capsized gets situated. Both boats should now be stable. The rescuer checks to see if the capsized is ready to resume paddling.
